SMART continues to increase market share in the UK

Independent Q2 study shows SMART has 58.2 percent of interactive whiteboard market

CALGARY, Alberta --- November 28, 2005 --- SMART Technologies Inc. announces that DTC Worldwide, an independent UK research firm, reported that 13,772 of the 23,654 interactive whiteboards sold in the second quarter of 2005 were SMART Board™ interactive whiteboards. This gives SMART a 58.2 percent market share, a significant increase from 40.4 percent market share held by SMART in the fourth quarter of 2003. The closest competitor had 25.0 percent of the market, down from 33.5 percent in the fourth quarter of 2003. The second quarter of 2005 was the third largest quarter ever recorded for interactive whiteboard sales in the UK.

As a result of a funding initiative from the UK Department for Education and Skills, interactive whiteboards are widely installed in UK schools. In 2003 and 2004, the department made £50 million available for the purchase of interactive whiteboards. Currently, every Local Education Authority uses SMART products. According to the British Educational Communications and Technology Agency (Becta) 2004 Performance IndICaTor report, 60 percent of primary schools and 90 percent of secondary schools have interactive whiteboards.
